Although he didn’t live his life in poverty, they didn’t have it easy with money which made Malacia promise himself to give his entire first salary from the football game. And it’s true, he did give away his salary after signing the first sponsorship contract with Nike.

His father worked as a football lawyer and an agent while his mother was a homemaker. With that fact, we can easily conclude that the love for football runs in the family with his father and grandfather.

Due to his birth in Rotterdam, he holds Dutch nationality but while searching about his parents’ origins, they were from two different countries. His father’s from curacao; a Dutch Caribbean island, as well as his mother, belongs from the northern coast of South America.

During an interview with Voetbal International Magazine, he once opened up about his family as he likes to keep his personal life private. After one of the matches when he was young, he got called by his father who let him know that his mother suffered from a brain hemorrhage and was lying in the hospital which made him inconsolable.

His mother’s left profile of her face was totally paralyzed and at that moment, he saw his father cry for the first time. He thought he would lose an important part of his family and sometime later it was true but not his mother but his granddad.

He got the second blow as his grandfather Carlo De Leeuw died from heart disease before the age of 70 while his mother was recovering from her sickness. He still gets teary-eyed as he recalls those incidents.
