Does pencil grip really matter?

The reason the dynamic pencil grasp is desirable is because the hand is positioned with an open web space (the nice circle made by the thumb and index finger) and it allows these fingers to move the pencil as required when writing. It is the preferred grasp for writing speed, control and letter formation.

Which pencil grip is the best?

The most effective pencil grips I have found are “Specialist Pencil Grips“. They guide finger placement and are likely to be used correctly by the child trying to alter their pencil grasp. The Pencil Grip provides ergonomic support of the hand in a tripod position.

What muscles are used to grasp?

The gripping and wrist actions share several muscles; flexor digitorum profundis (FDP) and flexor pollicis longus (FPL) contribute to wrist flexion and grip force production, while extensor digitorum communis (EDC) contributes to wrist extension and grip relaxation.

What is a crush grip?

The crush grip is what is most commonly thought of as “grip“. It involves a handshake-type grip, where the object being gripped rests firmly against the palm and all fingers. A strong crush grip is useful in bone-crushing handshakes or for breaking objects with pressure.

Smooth muscles are called involuntary muscles because they work automatically. They are inside many internal organs of the body, and control many types of movements inside your body, such as those involved in the process of digestion. Smooth muscles react more slowly and tire more slowly than skeletal muscles.

Why is hand grip stronger at ulnar side?

Past research suggests that the radial digits may be stronger than the ulnar–sided digits (1–3). All digits and muscles must work together in a coordinated fashion to produce overall grip strength. Further to this, muscle contraction in one finger has been shown to generate tension in other fingers (4).
