How many types of case studies are there?
There are generally five different types of case studies, and the subjects that they address. Every case study, whether explanatory or exploratory, or intrinsic or instrumental, fits into one of these five groups.
What are the three types of case studies?
There are three primary types of case studies: key cases, outlier cases, and local knowledge cases.
What are the five types of case study?
Types of Case Studies
- Illustrative Case Studies. These are primarily descriptive studies.
- Exploratory (or pilot) Case Studies. These are condensed case studies performed before implementing a large scale investigation.
- Cumulative Case Studies.
- Critical Instance Case Studies.
What is the steps of case study?
Collect the data in the field (or, less frequently, in the lab). Collect and organize the data, keep good field notes and maintain an organized database. Analyze the data. Prepare your report.
What are the characteristics of case study?
Characteristics of Case Study
- The number of unit to be studied is small.
- It studies a social unit deeply and thoroughly.
- It is qualitative as well as quantitative.
- It covers sufficient wide cycle of time.
- It has continuity in nature.
What are the objectives of case study?
The general purpose of a case study is to: → describe an individual situation (case), e.g. a person, business, organisation, or institution, in detail; → identify the key issues of the case (your assignment question should tell you what to focus on); → analyse the case using relevant theoretical concepts from your unit
What are the sources of case study?
Sources of evidence for case studies include interviews, documentation, archival records, direct observations, participant-observation, and physical artifacts.
What is a variable in a case study?
Definition: Variables are characteristics studied in research that can take on different values (e.g., weight, height, exposure to a substance, demographics (i.e., where you live, your ethnicity, how much income you have, medical background).
What are 3 types of variables?
There are three main variables: independent variable, dependent variable and controlled variables. Example: a car going down different surfaces.
What is a study variable?
A research variable (also called a study variable) is an informal term that means any variable used in research that has some kind of cause and effect relationship.
What are cases and variables?
A case is an experimental unit. Another synonym is experimental unit. A variable is a characteristic that is measured and can take on different values. In other words, something that varies between cases.
What are cases and observations?
Case Studies are a type of observational research that involve a thorough descriptive analysis of a single individual, group, or event. There is no single way to conduct a case study so researchers use a range of methods from unstructured interviewing to direct observation.
