Two ‘armed robbers’ killed in Lagos

The Lagos State police command reported Sunday that two robbery suspects were killed in an exchange of gunfire with police in the Okokomaiko neighbourhood on Saturday.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the command’s spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the event on Sunday.

According to Hundeyin, the DPO in charge of the Okokomaiko area got a notification at 2:30 a.m. on Saturday that a group of five armed criminals had broken into the Airtel Communication site.

The suspects, he alleged, broke into the communication facility on Adisa Street in Okokomaiko, tied the guard on duty up, and destroyed five inverter batteries worth around N6 million.

According to Hundeyin, the report prompted the dispatch of police officers to the area.

The criminals saw the police and immediately started shooting at them. Two criminals were killed, while the others fled the scene, leaving behind the stolen goods and a running V/Wagen LT Bus with the registration number BDG-924-XZ.

He added, “The scene was documented, and the bodies were taken to the IDH Morgue in Yaba for autopsy.”

Authorities, according to Hundeyin, are actively searching for the fugitives at large.
