Best defense for fantasy football 2023 is 1. New Orleans Saints, 2. San Francisco 49ers, 3. Pittsburgh Steelers, and 4. Miami Dolphins.
When someone thinks of the defensive unit of an NFL team, teams like the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers immediately come to mind.
The Fantasy Football (FF) points prediction has the New Orleans Saints at the top. Meanwhile, the Eagles have been projected to finish the campaign with 95.74 points.
The metrics that calculate the fantasy score projection can be overturned on the field. Last year, they pulled a mammoth 158.0 points.
The Eagles are considered one of the strongest defensive units, but the Strength of Schedule pits them against tough competition, which may be the reason for such low grades.
Another surprising aspect is that the Baltimore Ravens will finish with 93.0 points. They amassed 129.0 last year.
One may laugh or be furious about the projectile, but this is the machine’s work, and the actual work to overpower this lies in the player’s hand.

New Orleans Saints – 134.07
The Saints accumulated 105.0 fantasy points in 2022 and are on the way to score 134.07 points this year. The projection places them in the #1 spot.
The defense was tight in the previous outing. They managed to make 48 sacks, intercept 7 passes, and recover 7 fumbles for one touchdown.
They allowed 321 points and 5352 yards in seventeen games.
The team is expected to record 40 sacks, 14 interruptions, and recover 9 fumbles for a couple of TDs. They are projected to conceive 319 points, two points fewer than last year.
They have a .427 Strength of Schedule, the second easiest behind the Atlanta Falcons. The likes of Marshon Lattimore, Marcus Maye, Cameron Jordan, Demario Davis, and Tyrann Mathieu will be integral to their success.
San Francisco 49ers – 133.67
The 49ers have unarguably one of the strongest defensive lineups in the league. The addition of DT Javon Hargrave makes them even stronger.
The team includes DE Drake Jackson, DT Arik Armstead, DE Nick Bosa, MLB Fred Waarner, CB Chavarius Ward, SS Talanoa Hufanga, and LB Dre Greenlaw. Bosa was at the 4th place in the NFL Top 100 List.
The 44 sacks and 20 interceptions, backed with 3.4 yards allowed per carry for 1321 rushing yards, clearly show their combined run-stopping ability.
They made 156.0 FF points, the third-highest by defense, in 2022. They are expected to present a tally of 133.67 this year.
Everyone sees the 49ers as an iron wall nearly impossible to penetrate. They are technically sound with great power and quick feet.
Pittsburgh Steelers – 133.54
The Steelers only allowed 1838 rushing yards with 4.2 yards per carry in 2022. They were among the ten teams who allowed less than 1900 rushing yards.
They only amassed 97.0 points in 2022. They recorded 40 sacks and 3 fumble returns for a touchdown.
They finished with 20 interceptions and were T-1 with the 49ers in the interceptions chart.
Nothing was exciting about the side that finished 9-8 in the past year.
But they can undoubtedly regain their mojo and present themselves as a contender in the AFC North. Their defensive squad is anticipated to record 133.54 fantasy points.
Their core sportspersons, Cameron Heyward, T.J. Watt, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Joey Porter Jr., and Larry Ogunjobi, must stay healthy and dominate their opponents.
Miami Dolphins – 128.76
Miami Dolphins disappointed everyone in the 2022 fantasy league as they only got 89.0 points. In 2023, they are anticipated to get 128.76 points.
The great stride in the new campaign must be credited to incredible talents like David Long, Bradley Chubb, Jerome Baker, Christian Walkins, Jaelean Phillips, Jevon Holland, and Xavien Howard.
It will be fascinating to see how Vic Fangio plays his hands.
The defense and the secondary looks solid. Jalen Ramsey will be back with the side in December. It will add more depth to the roster.
They can leave the 40 sacks and 8 interception season behind as they are expected to record 43 sacks and 13 interceptions. Considering everything, they are a technically sound side that can be an asset in the FF league.
Cleveland Browns – 124.89
Kevin Stefanski will coach the Browns for the fourth year and would like to replicate 2020’s success. They made 102.0 points in 2022.
They have a new defensive coordinator in the form of Jim Schwartz. He would like his new side to bounce back and get into winning ways.
They managed 34 sacks and 11 interceptions in the previous year. They made four TDs from nine fumble recoveries, which was impressive.
The Browns are expected to amass as many as 124.89 points in the upcoming year. They will probably make 44 sacks and 11 interceptions to get to the anticipated tally.
The defense lost John Johnson, Tven Bryan, and Jadeveon Clowney in the offseason. They added Jun Thornhill, Dalvin Tomlinson, and Ogbonnia Okoronkwo to support Dezel Ward and Myles Garrett.
Dallas Cowboys – 124.47
Dallas Cowboys made 54 sacks in their 17 regular season matches. They shared the third spot for most sacks by teams with the New England Patriots.
They made 153.0 points, which was the fourth-highest in the league.
Defensively, the players led the chart with 22 forced fumbles and 17 fumbles recoveries.
The Cowboys are expected to score no less than 124.47 points in 2023. But, looking at their roster, this looks a bit sub-par.
They got Cornerback Stephon Gilmore from the Indianapolis Colts via trade this offseason, and it is considered one of the smartest deals of the year.
The squad has talents like Trevon Diggs, Devin Harper, Micah Parsons, Jonathan Hankins, and DeMarcus Lawrence to hold back the opponents.
Buffalo Bills – 123.81
The Bills allowed one of the fewest rushing yards of 1673 in the last campaign. They managed to contain the opponents for 4.3 yards per carry.
Likewise, opponents could defend 36.5% of attempted passes when they opted for passing play. They conceded 6 yards per attempt, the fifth-lowest in the league.
The 138.0 points in sixteen games with 10 fumble recoveries and three touchdowns helped them allow 278 points.
For the 2023 campaign, Josh Allen’s side is forecasted to earn 123.81 points. They are projected to make 43 sacks and interrupt 14 passes.
Some key players who need to remain healthy and pin down the rivals include:
- DR Von Miller
- SS Jordan Poyer
- FS Micah Hyde
- CB Tre’Davious White
- DT ED Oliver
Carolina Panthers – 116.45
Carolina Panthers are anticipated to rake in 116.45 fantasy points in 2023. It is 22.45 more than the 94.0 points of 2022.
The addition of Bryce Young in the 2023 NFL Draft has handed them a franchise QB. But what about defense?
The Panthers will rely on the following footballers to help contain the opponent and stop them from scoring:
- Sy Tuttle
- DeShawn Williams
- Frankie Luvu
- Shaq Thompson
- Von Bell
- Derrick Brown
- Jaycee Horn
These names and other defensive players are predicted to make 41 sacks and 13 interceptions in 2023. It is up by six in sacks and three in interceptions.
New York Jets – 109.98
NY Jets conceded the 5.8 yards per attempt when the opponents passed the ball on the field. It was the joint third-lowest in the league.
The talent of Aaron Rodgers, Breece Hall, Garrett Wilson, and others will be evident on the offense.
With the focus on the veteran quarterback, will they be able to compensate the same in the defense?
They are a balanced side, with players like Quincy Williams, Sauce Gardner, D.J. Reed, Adrian Amos, C.J. Mosley, and John Franklin-Myers taking the command and shutting down the opponents.
Jermaine Johnson, Will McDonald IV, and Carl Lawson add depth to the unit.
Last year, the Jets made 122.0 fantasy points with 45 sacks and 12 interceptions. They are predicted to have at least 109.98 points this year.
Green Bay Packers – 109.03
The Packers made 105.0 fantasy points in 2022 with 34 sacks and seventeen interceptions. The seven fumble recoveries and three touchdowns also helped them.
They have been impressive in forcing fumbles and interceptions. They have never ranked below sixth in these two departments in the past four years.
The four-time Super Bowl winners have retained sixteen of the defensive players from the previous year.
The defensive core includes Kenny Clark, De’Vondre Campbell, and Preston Smith. Other names like Rudy Ford, Rashan Gary, and Devonte Wyatt will be crucial in their success.
An impactful campaign will be required from them if the team wants to deliver the projected score of 109.03 in 2023.
They are predicted to deal 40 sacks and make 13 interceptions.
