Tony Armstrong Parents: Former AFL Player Was Raised By A Single Mum

Tony Armstrong was born on September 29th, 1989, and was brought up by his superstar single mother, Margaret Anne Armstrong. When he was recently awarded the 2022 Logies, he thanked his mother for all the love and support she provided to her son, which helped him achieve a successful life.

Tony was born in Sydney to a single mother who was working as a schoolteacher and living in Paddington 32 years ago. Later, the two relocated to the Riverina with no siblings that Tony was aware of and a father who was “not around,” as he revealed years later.

Tony’s mother, Margaret, who was then a primary school teacher, pulled together all of her earnings to send her son Tony to Assumption College, Kilmore. It was a boarding school renowned for being a football academy. Tony did not enroll in the esteemed institution on a scholarship. Therefore, to support him, his mother made “huge sacrifices.”

Recently, after receiving the Graham Kennedy Award for Most Popular New Host, he declared that his mother is the most important person in his life and she is everything to him in his thank-you speech after he received it.

Tony Armstrong Is Not Interested In Meeting His Aboriginal Father

Former AFL player Armstrong is eager to travel to his father’s farm in Bourke, New South Wales, but he is not interested in meeting his aboriginal father. He was raised only by his mother, and so he lacks a proper attachment to his father because Tony’s father left him and his mother before he was born.

The Graham Kennedy Award winner was very interested in visiting his hometown in 2019. But the outbreak of COVID-19 forced him to postpone his vacation plans, but he still has the plan right in front of his head.

He recently told Domain that it’s definitely less about meeting his father and more about returning to his homeland and meeting his mob and his family. If his father is present, so be it; if not, he is fine too.

Tony does not seem to have a healthy relationship with his father, and he is seldom seen talking about him on any public platform. As a result, very little information could be gathered about Tony’s father from the media outlets.

Tony Grew Up In A Family Of Two With No Siblings

Tony Armstrong was the only child of his mother and grew up in a family of two, including himself and his mother. He was nurtured by his mother in Cabramatta, in the southwest of Sydney, New South Wales, and therefore, he never knew his Aboriginal father.

Armstrong was first interested in rugby league but then switched to Australian rules football, rooting for the Sydney Swans. He was selected by Adelaide as the 58th overall choice in the 2007 AFL Draft. He participated in a total of 35 games throughout the course of six seasons for Adelaide, Sydney Swans, and Collingwood Magpies teams.

The former AFL player Tony was delisted after the 2014 AFL season, but Collingwood redrafted him in the rookie draft. After appearing in just one senior game in 2015, Armstrong was once more delisted by Collingwood at the end of the campaign.

Tony mentioned that he was an only child and that he appreciated how team sports could build a sense of collegiality. He also used football as a means of making friends. He stated that when you sign up for a team and you’ve already made 22 friends.
