Tom Selleck: career and achievements
Selleck’s first television appearance was on The Dating Game in 1965 when he was a senior in college, and again in 1967. He was soon appearing in advertisements for products such as Pepsi-Cola.
She began her career in smaller movies with bit parts like Myra Breckinridge, Coma and The Seven Minutes. The actor has appeared in several television series, miniseries, and television movies. He was also the face of Salem cigarettes and Revlon’s Chaz cologne. Selleck appeared in the 1971 Right Guard deodorant commercial, with Farrah Fawcett for Dubonnet aperitif in 1972, and another for Close-Up toothpaste in 1977. Magnum Stardom:
Selleck was an outspoken actor who did not catch the attention of the film industry for years. His big break came when he was cast in the lead role of Thomas Magnum in Magnum, P.I. The producers did not approve the actor for other projects, so Selleck had to go through the role of Indiana Jones in Lost Ark Raiders, who then went on to Harrison Ford, Star Wars alumnus. It turned out that a writers’ strike postponed shooting the pilot for Magnum for more than six months, which would have allowed him to complete Raiders.
Selleck was popular for his mustache, Hawaiian-style aloha shirt, Detroit Tigers baseball cap and Colt. The actual prop for the show was a 9-hour 19mm Parabellum, serial number 70L33101, used with readily available blanks for reliable operation; though the original gun was a traditional .45 ACP 1911. During the series, Magnum also used a Star Model B, another 9mm similar to the M1911A1, and a Detonics Pocket 9.
