Tim Vickery Net Worth, Income, Salary, Earnings, Biography

Since 1994, Tim Vickery (born 25 May 1965) has worked as a freelance football writer in Brazil, where he has been based since 1994. He now works as the BBC Sport’s South American football reporter, where he contributes a weekly piece to the corporation’s online publication. A regular contributor to World Soccer and Sports Illustrated, Vickery is also a contributor to SporTV’s major morning show, Redaço SporTV, where he serves as an analyst.

Following graduation from high school, he worked in a variety of professions, including menswear store assistant, labourer, comedy writer, box office assistant, and ultimately theatre manager in Brazil’s Favelas region. During his time in Brazil, he met a number of worldwide performance professionals and became intrigued by the Brazilians’ preoccupation with football.

So, after graduating from the University of Kent in 1994 and receiving certification as an English language teaching assistant, he travelled to Brazil, where he taught English to locals and immersed himself in Brazilian football. He began producing a series of pieces for different Brazilian football fanzines while supporting himself via his TEFL earnings.

Currently, he is probably best known for his work on The World Football Phone-in, which airs regularly as part of Up All Night on BBC Radio 5 Live on Saturday mornings, as well as his work on the BBC World Football Show (2.00-4.00 am UK, 9.00-11.00 pm ET). Vickery is referred to as the ‘Beazildinho’ or the ‘Brazilkipedia’ on the programme because of his extensive knowledge of Brazilian football. Since 2008, Vickery has served as the Brazilian reporter for World Soccer Daily, and he has continued to serve in that capacity on World Football Daily, the video podcast that has since succeeded WSD. The Sambafoot.com website has featured his weekly news articles since May 2011. SporTV, a Brazilian television station, broadcasts him on occasion as a guest on football-related discussion programmes. In addition to the “old style” of Brian Glanville, whose “international awareness” has always attracted to Vickery, he names the “social consciousness” of Hugh McIlvanney, who writes for the Sunday Times, as his primary inspirations.
