TMBG (often abbreviated as TMBG) is an American alternative rock band founded in 1982 by John Flansburgh and John Linnell. The band’s first album, They Might Be Giants, was released in 1982. TMBG’s early years were marked by the presence of a drum machine, which Flansburgh and Linnell often used. In the early 1990s, TMBG grew to include a supporting band, which became known as the Backing Band. Marty Beller, Dan Miller, and Danny Weinkauf are the members of the duo’s current backup band, which was formed in 2007.
A distinctive characteristic of the group’s alternative music is its unusual and experimental approach. Over the course of their career, they have achieved success on the contemporary rock and CMJ charts, respectively. More recently, they have achieved success in the field of children’s music as well as the theme music for a number of television shows and films.
TMBG has produced a total of 16 studio albums to date. Flood is a platinum-certified album, and the band’s children’s music albums Here Come the ABCs, Here Come the 123s, and Here Comes Science have all been certified gold by the record industry. The band has received two Grammy Awards, the first of which was in 2002 for their song “Boss of Me,” which was used as the theme song for the television show Malcolm in the Middle. They received their second award in 2009 for the film Here Come the 123s. The band has sold more than 4 million albums worldwide.
