Short Info

Net Worth $3 million
Date Of Birth August 4, 1995
Fact Parents: Neide Maia and Telmo Marquezine .

Bruna Marquezine is a popular Brazilian television and stage actress, who became more prominent for being the ex-girlfriend of famous Brazilian professional footballer Neymar.

Early Life and Family

Bruna Marquezine was born Bruna Reis Maina on 4 August 1995, in Duque de Caxias, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to parents Neida Maia and Telmo Maia. She is close to her parents, and was with raised with her younger sister, but shares a special bond with her father. Her screen name of Marquezine came from her grandmother’s name as a tribute to her Nana. She was raised in Baixada Fluminense until the age of 13, when they moved to a better apartment in Barra da Tijuca, then later moved again to a luxurious mansion previously owned by actress Flavia Alessandra, but still in the same city.

Education

There is no information about her formal education. Since she started as a child actress, it’s believed that Bruna did not have time to attend formal schooling, but had acting lessons instead.

Career

First Step

Bruna started her career at a very young age doing commercials, and took part in an educational video series entitled, “Xuxa Só Para Baixinhos”, with popular singer-actress Xuxa. At age eight she made her television debut, when she was offered the role of Salette, created by popular telenovela writer Manoel Carlos. The primetime telenovela, “Mulheres Apaixonadas” or internationally known as “Women in Love,” was aired in 2003 over the largest television network in Brazil, Rede Globo.

She won the Best Child Actor Award for this role from four prestigious award-giving bodies in Brazil.

When it was finished, later in 2003 she was offered a part in the movie, “Xuxa Abracadabra,”. It was a fantasy-adventure movie with a touch of Brazilian folklore for children, and was internationally released by Warner Bros. It was a commercial success, and she took on a series of telenovela roles from then on.

In 2005, she played a blind character, Maria Flor, in the telenovela “America”, that tested her acting abilities, which she passed with flying colors, winning another Best Child Actor award. After a year, she was part of another telenovela, the romantic comedy series “Cobras & Lagartos.”  She continued improving in her craft by accepting roles each year; it didn’t matter to her if it was a minor or supporting role.

She was Lurdinha in “Desejo Proibido” in 2007, Maria Augusta in “Negocio da China” the following year, and Professor Teresinha in “Araguala” aired in 2010.

Further Sucess

Her patience and perseverance was rewarded when she was offered a major role in 2011 in the primetime TV series entitled, “Aquele Beijo.” It was followed by another primetime TV series aired in 2012, called “Salve Jorge”, and finally in 2014, Bruna was offered a lead role by the same person who created the first TV series she was a part of, Manoel Carlos, in “Em Familia,” and it was aired in a highly coveted primetime slot; she was nominated in the Best Actress category at the Premio Contigot de TV.

Due to her rising popularity, she was given a supporting role in an American movie entitled “Breaking Through,” released in 2015, however, it drew generally unfavorable reviews for having a poor script.

Her TV career continued to soar, as she was given major roles in Brazilian primetime telenovelas, such as “Nada Sera Como Antes” in 2016 and “Deus Salve o Rei” in 2018, in which she played the character Catarina de Lurton, the Queen of Artena and Montemor.

Personal Life

She had an on-again, off-again relationship with Neymar, a popular Brazilian footballer after they first met in a Rio de Janeiro carnival celebration in 2012. They started dating shortly after meeting, however, they separated for a while in 2013, then rekindled their love affair in 2014, just before the FIFAWorld Cup which was hosted by Brazil, but parted after a few months. In October of 2016, they were seen together, but by June of 2017 they’d broken-up again just before Neymar’s official transfer to Paris St-Germain.

Speculations arose that the reason for the break-up that time was that Neymar wanted to get married, and Bruna to live with him in Europe, but she wasn’t ready yet. They were together during New Year’s Eve of 2018, and was supportive of him during the World Cup that year, by posting photos to her social media account, but by October of the same year, they had reportedly parted ways yet again.

Who is Neymar?

Neymar da Silva Santos Jr. was born on 5 February 1992, in Mogi das Cruzes, São Paulo, Brazil to parents Nadine da Silva and Neymar Santos Sr. He is simply known as Neymar Jr. or Neymar. His father was a former professional footballer, and trained his son while growing up, as Neymar started playing in street games and indoor games such as Futsal.

Neymar attended Las Heras for his primary education, but never pursued further studies as he was playing soccer at a very young age, and showed potential to qualify for bigger leagues. True enough, at age 11 he was accepted in the Santos FC junior league, and improved so that by age 14 he was already receiving offers from popular ball clubs such as Real Madrid C.F. However, Santos FC was able to convince him to stay by giving him a huge bonus.

During his years with Santos FC, he was able to lead his team to win the Copa do Brazil and then the Copa Libertadores championship. He won three scoring titles too, and was named Player of the Year four times in a row. His popularity skyrocketed, and he became arguably the hottest soccer player in Brazil.

With fame comes negative criticism too, such as being beaten by an underdog Mexican team during the 2012 Summer Olympics, and for having a child out of wedlock. However, he was able to lead his team to win the gold medal at the 2016 Olympics, and his career soared even higher. In 2019, when he agreed to be transferred to Paris Saint-Germain F.C, he broke the world football transfer record at that time with a contract worth $263 million.

ESPN placed him in the top 10 most famous athletes in the world in 2016. “TIME” included him in the 100 most influential people in the world list in 2017, and in 2019 “Forbes” claimed that he was the third highest paid athlete in the world next to Ronaldo and Messi.

He currently plays as a forward for Paris Saint-Germain F.C, where he was already awarded Player of the Year, and led his team in winning Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue championship titles.

Other relationships

Bruna was in a relationship a year before Neymar came into her life. Her boyfriend back then was Brazilian rapper Diego Raphael Villanueva, but they broke up in 2011. She was also romantically linked with other men in between the on and off relationship with Neymar – she dated Marlon Teixeria, a Brazilian model, but it did not last long and they broke up in 2015. The same thing happened in 2016 when she dated the Brazilian actor Mauricio Destri, and then the Brazilian singer-songwriter Tiago Iorc. Apparently, she kept going back to Neymar every time there was a chance to rekindle the relationship with him.

Interesting Facts

  • According to one of her Instagram posts, she ships her character, Catarina de Lurton, Queen of Artena and Montemor, to her King Rodolfo played by Brazilian actor, Johnny Massaro, in her 2018 telenovela, “Deus Salve o Rei,” and even used the hashtag #CaDolfo. She even urged her character to forget her first love.
  • She loves that her father is very simple, and doesn’t care about social media or anything about pop culture.
  • Bruna is a known supporter of homeless refugees from Venezuela in her country, by donating food and supplies to them thru a non-profit organization.
  • She is active in raising funds for people in need during this Corona Virus global pandemic in Brazil, via a live 3-day festival.
