“As they experience life in the public domain, “The Royals” will adopt a modern-day royal family. Queen Helena, identified as a woman who has the strength, elegance and intellect to get what she desires, is played by Hurley. She is keen on monitoring the reputation of her prominent family in public. King Simon (Regan) is the spiritual compass of the family, but he is swift to put his family above the individuals he governs over.
Liam, the youngest son of the king and queen, is played by Moseley, the star of the Chronicles of Narnia movies. Suddenly, as he becomes the obvious successor to the throne, he feels the spotlight on him. Liam loves the benefits of becoming a sought-after qualified bachelor like any young male, but ventures into a friendship with a young American woman whose integrity leads her to butt heads with the monarchy. Eleanor, the only daughter of the royal family, is portrayed by Park. She’s daily fodder for tabloids.
Eight weeks after the horrific killing of King Simon (Vincent Regan) by an anonymous gunman, the second season picks up. After calling the Prince and Princess illegitimate, with the aid of the Queen to fabricate the paternity findings, Cyrus, the greedy brother of Simon, took the throne. Although Cyrus is persuaded that the Queen is on his side, her majesty has in mind her own agenda: alter the Royal Family’s succession and allow the control transfer to the Queen if anything could happen to another Monarch.
In the meanwhile, Liam promises to put the killer of his father to justice and teams up with an unexpected friend to do so, the duplicitous bodyguard Jasper, who, despite sleeping with both the Princess and the Queen, was stripped of his duties and was once deemed a key suspect in the assault of the King that contributed to his assassination. The two young men, though, who are also seeking to repair their separate fractured hearts, have united through their shared interest for the well-being of the Princess and are attempting to put to justice a common adversary.
Although King Cyrus strives to win over a nation of citizens who hate him because of his failure to communicate and overall contempt for everyday culture, amid her apparently fairytale existence as a princess, Eleanor falls deeper into depression as she tries to make a meaningful bond with someone. Her bodyguard blackmailed her and slept with her mother, her brother was trapped in a vengeful vision of the tunnel, her mother only discovered that her father was not who she assumed, that the new King despised her, and the one person who ever trusted in her was killed with the last words of his disappointment that he said to her.
Now, while always struggling to maneuver through the dark seas of true romance, Eleanor takes solace in unhealthy quantities of booze, narcotics and random intercourse. There hasn’t been too much anarchy in the kingdom ever since Marie Antoinette.
Season three picks up two weeks after the assassination of Ted Pryce, the killer of King Simon, the longtime chief of defense of the Royal Family. Queen Helena is on a quest to show that the rightful claimants to the throne and the offspring of King Simon are Prince Liam and Princess Eleanor. Simon’s brother, though, and the monarch’s new emperor, King Cyrus, would stop at none to guarantee that the Queen does not assert her paternity.
Meanwhile, Prince Liam and Princess Eleanor are at the height of their popularity, and a mysterious #KingLiam trend has started to take England by storm as she refuses to stand for anything or something, asking for an insurrection in favor of the Prince’s hero. Unknown to the Royal Family, though, their environment is on the edge of being shaken harder than ever before.
