In its attempt to rescue civilization after a disastrous pandemic, TNT’s epic drama The Last Ship – basic cable’s #1 new series of 2014 – is planning to set sail again this summer. In the high-impact season, which is created by Platinum Dunes, Eric Dane (Grey’s Anatomy), Rhona Mitra (Strike Back) and Adam Baldwin (Firefly, Chuck) appear alongside their collaborators – blockbuster filmmakers Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Shape – working as executive producers. Executive producers Hank Steinberg (creator of Beyond a Doubt, The Nine) and Steven Kane (The Closer) are both co-creators and showrunners, along with Jack Bender (Lost).
The Last Ship chronicles a planetary disaster that nearly decimates the inhabitants of the earth, based on the famous novel by William Brinkley. The Navy destroyer U.S.S. Nathan James escaped becoming prey to the horrific disaster as a consequence of its positioning. But now the crew and its captain, in an environment where they might be among the only surviving survivors, must face the truth of their current lives.
Captain Chandler (Dane), XO Slattery (Baldwin) and the rest of the crew are focusing on disseminating the remedy produced at the end of season one by paleomicrobiologist Dr. Rachel Scott (Mitra) as the second season opens.
The widely awaited third season, after the epic second-season cliffhanger, sees the Nathan James crew turning their focus to Asia after President Michener hears rumblings that President Peng, the Chinese king, has been hoarding the “Scott cure” instead of spreading it to the citizens in the area. Michener is sending Chandler to study this accusation at a global conference, as well as news about potential variants of the initial virus that have sparked a new epidemic in Japan. The implications for the world are dire if the mutation has happened, and Asia has not been safeguarded. And with Rachel Scott fired in the second finale of the season, and her fate is still uncertain, optimism is in low supply.
“The Last Ship” returns in this fourth season with a new quest to rescue mankind while the planet begins to fight for life. In this action-packed series chronicling the effects of a worldwide disaster that almost decimates the people of the planet, Eric Dane (Grey’s Anatomy), Bridget Regan (Agent Carter) and Adam Baldwin (Firefly, Chuck) appear in this action-packed series.
The Navy destroyer U.S.S. Nathan James has been the key mechanism for the development and delivery of the antidote to the Red Flu over the first three seasons, culminating in a near global recovery. Tom Chandler (Dane) has given up his heroic titles and duties after the chilling incidents at the end of last season, finding solace – and privacy — with his family in a remote fishing village in Greece. In the meantime, Captain Slattery (Baldwin) and Nathan James’ team have learned that the plague has ‘jumped kingdoms’ and is now infecting the food crops of the planet, taking mankind to the verge of global starvation. In pursuit of a compromise that might preserve the world’s food supplies, Chandler faces his own rivals in Greece when the ship enters the Mediterranean. His “hero’s journey” turns into a present day retelling of the Odyssey of Homer.
