The name Thandabantu translates as “the man who loves people” in the indigenous languages of the area and is synonymous with the owners of the Lodge.
Thandabantu River Lodge was established in 2010, when two best friends – Michael Smal and Manie du Plessis – purchased a 300 hector farm in the Roossenekal area.
The building of the Restaurant, Deck, Swimming Pools, Chalets and Staff Housing took close to 18 months and required substantial investments.
A large reception hall was built adjacent the bar and restaurant area.
Currently the Lodge consists of 8 chalets, 2 large family chalets, the original wooden house with various rooms, 2 swimming pools, a Jacuzzi, restaurant, bar, reception area and Chapel.
