Teller is an American magician, illusionist, actor, comedian, writer, and director who has an estimated net worth of $175 million. Born as Raymond Joseph Teller on February 14, 1948 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he is one half of the famed magician and illusion duo of Penn & Teller. He is known for rarely making a sound during performances and has only spoken a few times while doing their magical acts.
Penn & Teller specialize in gory tricks, exposing frauds and elaborate pranks. Teller and Penn Jillette first met in 1975 at a comedy show. By the 1980s, they were touring the country and appearing on popular television shows. Jillette made waves when he stated during an interview with Larry King that the reason he and Teller were successful is because they are not close friends. Jillette later clarified his comments to state that the two have a mutual respect for each other and consider themselves to be close relatives.
When not practicing magic, Teller is an author of several magic books and a prominent libertarian and atheist. He had collaborated with Jillete on three magic books. He also wrote the biography/memoir of his father “When I’m Dead All This Will Be Yours!”: Joe Teller – A Portrait by His Kid (2000). It features the paintings and 100 unpublished cartoons of his father, which were strongly influenced by George Lichty’s Grin and Bear It.
