Lindsey Caroline Vonn (née Kildow; born October 18, 1984) is an American alpine ski racer who competes for the United States Ski Team at the World Cup level. It was in 2008, 2009, and 2010 that she won three consecutive World Cup titles, followed by a fourth in 2012. She is one of just two female skiers in history to have done so, the other being Annemarie Moser-Pröll. Vonn won the gold medal in downhill skiing at the 2010 Winter Olympics, becoming the first American woman to accomplish so in the history of the sport. Aside from that, she has won six consecutive World Cup season championships in the downhill discipline (from 2008 to 2013), four consecutive wins in the super-G discipline (from 2009 to 2012), and three consecutive titles in the combined discipline (from 2010 to 2012). With 59 World Cup victories in her career, Vonn is one of just six women to have won World Cup races in each of the five alpine skiing disciplines (downhill, super-G, giant slalom, slalom, and super combined). Vonn has won 59 World Cup races in her career, which ended in February 2014. With 62 World Cup wins in her career, Annemarie Moser-Pröll of Austria leads the field, followed by Ingemar Stenmark of Sweden, who has 86 triumphs in his career. She has been the most successful American ski racer in history, with gold and bronze medals at the Olympics, two gold medals at the World Championships in 2009 (plus three silver medals between 2007 and 2011), and four overall World Cup championships. Vonn was named Sportswoman of the Year at the 2010 Laureus World Sports Awards in Los Angeles. She was also named the USOC’s sportswoman of the year for the second time in a row in 2010. From Sochi, Russia, Vonn worked as a reporter for NBC News, where she covered the Winter Olympics in 2014.
