Tech N9ne, born Aaron Dontez Yates, started rapping at a very early age. In fact, he used to rap the letters of his name to remember how to spell it. He had quite a rough childhood; his mother suffered from epilepsy and lupus, and he never met his father. However, he claims that is what inspired him to search for God.
He began his rapping career as a member of a group Black Mafia formed in 1991. Later he performed with many other groups, but he gained recognition after he started his solo career. He has also appeared in a number of TV shows and his songs were used in various video games.
In 1995, he married Lecoya LeJuene, but they separated in 2005 and they got legally divorced 12 years later, in 2017.
