Taylor Kitsch  Career

During his childhood, he aspired to become an actor, which eventually was the real reason behind his move to New York. As in New York ,Taylor pursued his dreams by studying the art of acting with coach Sheila Grey. Not too long after that, Taylor was cast in several film and television roles, such as John Tucker Must Die (2006), Snakes on a Plane (2006) and Kyle XY (2006). Moving to New York in 2002 was the prize that Taylor received after being scouted by modeling scouts in Canada. Taylor was signed to “IMG Models” and later he became a regular face for the famous clothing lines, “Abercrombie & Fitch” and also “Diesel”. Taylor was also signed under “Untitled Entertainment” during his two years stay in the city. While Taylor was living in New York, he found time to become a certified personal trainer and nutritionist.

In the year 2004, Taylor decided that it was time for him to move to Los Angeles to learn more about the acting course. Taylor stayed in Los Angeles for about eight months and did some print work with “Nous Modeling Management”. It wasn’t too long until Taylor realized that he didn’t want to be in Los Angeles. Taylor thought that things were running a little bit too fast for him, then making the decision to move back to Vancouver for the summer of 2005 to spend more time with his family. In 2006, Taylor then signed with “Endeavour”.

In the year 2006, Kitsch was cast in his breakout role on the NBC sports teen drama television series Friday Night Lights, based on Peter Berg’s 2004 film of the same name and set in the fictional town of Dillon, Texas. For five seasons, Kitsch portrayed the role of Tim Riggins, a high school student who is the fullback/running back of the Dillon Panthers. The series premiered in October 2006 to universal critical acclaim from critics and over 7.7 million viewers. Kitsch has ruled out reprising his role in a potential film sequel to the television series. He played Pogue Parry in The Covenant, alongside Steven Strait, Sebastian Stan, Laura Ramsey, Toby Hemingway, Jessica Lucas and Chace Crawford. In February 2008, he signed on to play Gambit in the X-Men franchise spinoff X-Men Origins: Wolverine, released in May 2009.

Kitsch starred in Steven Silver’s The Bang Bang Club, an historical drama set in South Africa which documents the final bloody days of the apartheid in 2010. He had to lose 35 pounds in two months to play the role of photojournalist Kevin Carter, alongside Ryan Phillippe and Malin Åkerman. In November 2010, The Hollywood Reporter named Kitsch as one of the young male actors who are “pushing – or being pushed” into taking over Hollywood as the new “A-List”. In the Disney film John Carter, based on Edgar Rice Burroughs’s fantasy novel A Princess of Mars, he played the title character, a Confederate soldier who is transported to Mars. Released in March 2012, it made back less than a third of its budget domestically, and worldwide grosses barely recouped its production and marketing costs. Despite this, Kitsch has said, “I’m very proud of John Carter. Box office doesn’t validate me as a person, or as an actor.”

In May 2012, Kitsch starred in Peter Berg’s Battleship, based on Hasbro’s toy game, as Lieutenant Alex Hopper. It, too, failed at the domestic box office, boasting the worst opening in history for a film that cost more than $200 million. Again, international revenues are expected to help mitigate its performance. The film marked his reunion with Berg and former Friday Night Lights co-star, Jesse Plemons. In July 2012, he starred in Oliver Stone’s Savages, with Blake Lively, Salma Hayek and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. HitFix’s film critic Drew McWeeny was positive of Kitsch’s bond with Johnson which he described as “not only credible but lived in and authentic throughout the film”. McWeeny wrote that Kitsch was used the right way in this film with an ensemble that pushes him or challenges him in scenes which resulted in his playing hard, playing intense.

Kitsch starred in The Grand Seduction ,in 2013, remake of Jean-François Pouliot’s French-Canadian La Grande Séduction (2003) directed by Don McKellar, and another Peter Berg film, Lone Survivor, based on Marcus Luttrell’s book. He plays alongside Jim Parsons, Julia Roberts and Mark Ruffalo in Ryan Murphy’s The Normal Heart, which aired on HBO on May 25, 2014. Kitsch is in negotiations for the lead role in the American remake of The Raid. Kitsch starred in the sophomore season of True Detective, opposite Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams, and Colin Farrell. Kitsch will write, direct and star in the drama Pieces.

Taylor Kitsch Needed a Vacation After Playing David Koresh in Waco. So He Took Two.

Updated:June 13, 2018

After embodying David Koresh for 10 months on Waco, Taylor Kitsch needed to decompress and get away — which is exactly what he did.

The Friday Night Lights alum, 37, lost 30 pounds and had to study scripture, learn to play the guitar and take vocal lessons for the role of the Branch Davidian cult leader in the six-episode miniseries, which debuted on the Paramount Network in January. And that doesn’t begin to describe the psychological toll playing such a character for 10 months could have.

“Something that I learned through talking to other actors that have played guys that don’t have the best rap either, it’s tough because sometimes you let those things infiltrate into your head, even unconsciously if you’re talking to somebody,” Kitsch told PEOPLE at ATX Television Festival in Austin, Texas. “Even now having played Dave Koresh, people are like, ‘Oh my god how are you not crazy right now?’”
