Taulia Tagovailoa Recruiting and Transfer
After just one year at Alabama, sophomore-to-be Taulia entered the NCAA transfer portal Friday evening, as Charlie Potter of 247Sports’ BamaOnLine confirmed, putting an intriguing option on the market for quarterback-needy teams.
Tagovailoa’s timing might have come as a surprise, but the current circumstances — no spring football camp chief among them — hindered the younger brother of former Crimson Tide star Tua Tagovailoa (2017-19).
“Bottom line is Taulia really needed this spring to come off, as it was scheduled,” said Travis Reier, 247Sports Alabama insider, Friday evening on BamaOnLine’s podcast. “He needed a boost in team practices. He needed those three scrimmages to show that he was legitimately in that mix to take over as the successor for his brother.
I don’t think — in retrospect, again — if you had told me back in January that the Tagovailoas have a timeframe that in the time immediately after the completion of the spring semester, that’s where a decision’s going to get made.”
