Ruan Ras is widely known as the boyfriend of Tatjana Schoenmaker.
Ruan Ras is a professional South African swimmer.
In 2011, Ras was diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma cancer. His biggest frustration at the time was not being able to swim while undergoing chemotherapy. However, he made a full recovery in 2012.
‘I had set myself goals, and suddenly it looked like I wouldn’t be able to achieve them – that was frustrating,’ said Ras who wasn’t able to swim for six months.
“Having survived cancer led to me mature at a young age. I realised that nothing is impossible if you have faith and can persevere. In a way, my experience might have helped me cope with the Covid-19 pandemic”, Ras stated.
Ruan Ras attended TuksSport High School. He then proceeded to the University of Pretoria, where he graduated with a degree in architecture.
He works at the Boogertman and Partners Architecture Firm.
Ruan Ras is also competitive in the 200m individual medley as well as the 200m and 400m freestyle events.
Ruan Ras and Tatjana have been dating for a couple of months. However, how they met is obscure to the public.
