Tampa Bay Buccaneers Coaching Staff includes head coach Todd Bowles, Dave Canales, Harold Goodwin, Kacy Rodgers, Larry, Foote and others.
Bucs is now looking for a Defensive Coordinator. This position has been empty since 2022.
We may see a new person taking the defense responsibility in the upcoming campaign, as few names have surfaced recently.
Todd Bowles heads into his second season as the head coach of the Buccs. Before that, he served with the New York Jets from 2015 to 2018.
An impressive stint as a Defensive Coordinator saw him get the head coach duty in 2022.
The Buccs were 8-9 in the regular season and topped the NFC South division. However, they lost the Wild Card Playoffs against Dallas Cowboys.
They might want to change that fate this time and make it to the biggest event.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Head Coach Todd Bowles
Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bowles went to Washington Redskins as a UDFA after he went undrafted in the 1986 Draft. Todd Bowles played eight years in NFL as a Safety.
He was with the Redskins till 1990 and won Super Bowl XXII during that span. In the 1991 season, he played for the San Francisco 49ers, returned to his old team in 1992, and retired in 1993.
In 1995, he was hired by Green Bay Packers as a Player Personal Staff. The New Jersey native enjoyed a successful tenure winning Super Bowl XXXI as an executive.
The 59-year-old began coaching in 1997 as a Defensive coordinator and Secondary coach at Morehouse Marron Tigers. He took a job at Grambling State Tigers in 1998.
Some other teams he was affiliated with in secondary roles are:
| New York Jets | 2000 |
| Cleveland Browns | 2001-2004 |
| Dallas Cowboys | 2005-2007 |
| Miami Dolphins | 2008-2011 |
| Philadelphia Eagles | 2012 |
| Arizona Cardinals | 2013-2014 |
In 2015, he was appointed Head Coach of the New York Jets. After impressing the board with ten wins in the first year, he failed to repeat the same. In the 2018 season, Bowles’ Jets performed miserably, recording 4-12 and eventually cutting his ties with the franchise.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers hired him as a Defensive Coordinator in 2019, and the Buccs won the Vince Lombardi Trophy in 2020.
Since 30th March 2022, Todd has taken the head coach role at the club. Currently, he is under a five-year contract.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Offensive Coordinator
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Offensive Coordinator Dave Canales was hired on 16th February 2023. Byron Leftwich held the role from 2019 to 2022.
Dave is an alumnus of Azusa Pacific University, where he played as a Defensive Back and a Wide Receiver. He is one of the NFL coaches who never played in the NFL as a player.
But, it does not discredit his potential as a coach. After all, he has a Super Bowl (XLVIII) in his portfolio with Seattle Seahawks.
Initially, he took the job of Offensive Coordinator at Carson High School in 2004. He also enjoyed a decent run with El Camino College and the University of South Carolina.
The Californian was recruited as a Wide Receiver coach at the Seahawks in 2010. He became a Quarterback coach in 2018, took the passing game coordinator role in 2020, and moved back to his previous title in 2022.
During thirteen years with the Seahawks, the 42-year-old aided the franchise in securing ten playoff berths and a couple of NFC Championships (2013 and 2014).
The team also topped the NFC West standings in 2010, 2013, 2014, 2016, and 2020.
2023 will be Canales’s first season at Raymond James Stadium. It will be interesting to see how he adjusts to the team, solves the Quarterback situation, and handles the offense without Tom Brady.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Defensive Coordinator
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Defensive Coordinator post has been vacant since 2022 after the then DC Todd Bowles was promoted to the head coach job.
Mike Smith, Leslie Frazier, Bil Sheridan, Jim Bates, Monte Kiffin, Rusty Tillman, and Abe Gibron are a few people who have taken the job in the past. Bowles had a 63.3 win percentage, and his playoff record was 5-1, making him the most impressive.
The search for an impressive personality is going on, and few names have emerged who could be interviewed and hired by the franchise. Some of the potential candidates are as follows:
- Jerod Mayo
- Eric Washington
- Jim Leonhard
- Joe Whitt Jr.
- Jonathan Cooley
Mayo was a former linebacker for New England Patriots (2008-2015). In 2019, he was appointed the inside linebacker coach for the Patriots.
He has a 37-29 record with a 56.06 win percentage, making him a decent fit for the job.
Whitt Jr. has a similar winning percentage in 228 games in his 17 years career. Currently, he runs the passing game and secondary for the Dallas Cowboys. He was part of the coaching staff for the 2011 Super Bowl-winning team of the Green Bay Packers.
Likewise, Washington can be an excellent fit for the Buccs. He has sixteen years of experience and has been part of big names like Texas A&M, Ohio Bobcats, Chicago Bears, and Carolina Panthers.
In 2020, the Buffalo Bills hired him as a defensive line coach. He has been handling the senior defensive assistant and defensive line coach post since 2022.
The Buccs probably want experienced personnel taking charge of defense. These three names have a good reputation in the league and a win percentage over 55.
The franchise should go for them and add firepower to their coaching team.

Rodgers was given the responsibility to look after the running game in 2022.
Likewise, Foote was an outside linebacker coach and was handed the duty of pass game and inside linebackers in 2022.
Tampa Bay Times reports that the team has improved in speed. The offensive front and defense have become more athletic, which indicates the right amount of work from the coaching staff.
