Tame One Obituary

Several members of the Hip-Hop community have mourned the loss of Tame One. Tame passed away at the age of 52 years old. Born Rahem Brown, Tame was a co-founder of Newark, New Jersey Hip-Hop group The Artifacts as well as a member of The Weathermen and Leak Bros.

He was 52 years old. The crew, with El Da Sensei and DJ Kaos, released albums in the 1990s and had recently completed an album with Diggin’ In The Crates crew producer (and longtime Artifacts collaborator) Buckwild, No Expiration Date on his Rap Is Outta Control radio show.

Tame was a cousin to Redman, who had supported the group’s early endeavours, with production and features. At Big Beat, they released 1994’s Between A Rock And A Hard Place and 1997’s That’s Them.

HipHopWired is among the publications reporting on Tame’s passing. Rah Digga, Dante Ross, and fellow Weathermen member El-P were among those who have publicly mourned Tame. However, no cause of death has been provided.

As a solo artist, Tame partnered with High Times Records and later, DJ Mighty Mi’s Eastern Conference Records for releases in the 2000s that included When Rappers Attack.

He would later team with Del The Funky Homosapien and Parallel Thought for 2009’s Parallel Uni-Verses. Tame also joined El-P, Aesop Rock, Cage, Vast Aire, Copywrite, Breeze Brewin, Yak Ballz, and others in The Weathermen.

As an E.C. side project, Cage and Tame 1 (as his name was sometimes stylized as) formed the short-lived The Leak Bros in the mid-2000s.

All extend condolences to El Da Sensei, and the family, friends, and fans of Tame One.
