Sza’s Biography (Real Name)
Raised in a mixed religion family, the singer was mostly educated as a Muslim and was given the name Solána Imani Rowe at birth on November 8, 1990. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri and nursed in Maplewood, New Jersey. Sza is of African American heritage.
As with any normal Muslim child, Sza attended a Muslim prep school every night after returning from regular school. She was an athlete who was active in gymnastics and cheerleading at Columbia High School. In her sophomore year, the singer was ranked as one of the top gymnasts in all of America.
But ironic as it may sound, high school days didn’t go smoothly for Sza as she was bullied over the 9/11 attacks in the US, which caused her to stop wearing the hijab. After high school, she studied marine biology at Delaware State University.
