Seymour “Sy” Kravitz (December 10, 1924 – October 29, 2005) was an American filmmaker and news producer for NBC television. He was born in New York City. Originally from Russia, Kravitz was of Jewish ancestry. He was married to actress Roxie Roker from 1962 until 1985, during which time he had three children. Kravitz and Roker are the parents of rock musician Lenny Kravitz, who was born to them. Leonard M. Kravitz, Sy’s brother, was killed in combat in the Korean War while fighting against a Chinese assault and rescuing the majority of his battalion. He was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Service Cross and, more recently, the Medal of Honor. Sy was a Hollywood producer, and his son’s musical career benefited by his exposure to superstars and up-and-coming talents while growing up in that atmosphere. He died of leukaemia in New York City, a month and a half before his 81st birthday, the night before Lenny Kravitz performed his first show on the band’s North American tour with Aerosmith. He was 80 at the time of his death. On October 31, 2005, during a performance at the Mohegan Sun Casino Arena in Connecticut, the Let Love Rule singer paid homage to his father in front of the audience.
