Susan Misner has been married to her husband Jonathan Bernstein since 1999. Jonathan Bernstein is the Artistic Director of The Performing Arts Project at NYU.

Susan Misner married her producer husband Jonathan Bernstein in 1999. The pair celebrated their twenty-three years of marriage this year.
Jonathan is a well-known film producer whose plays and musicals have been produced all over the world. He collaborated with his wife, actress/choreographer Misner, for The Shape She Makes, which played through April 27, 2014, at Oberon.
He is also notable for In This House, written with Sarah Schlesinger and Mike Reid. Moreover, Jonathan wrote and directed a play with dance titled Here In The Bright Colorado Sun under The Jerome Robbins Foundation.
Bernstein’s directing credits include work at the Atlantic Theatre Company, New York Stage & Film, American Repertory Theatre, The Signature Theatre, Williamstown Theatre Festival, Ensemble Studio Theatre, Naked Angels, Barrington Stage Company, and others.
He has worked in different capacities at Manhattan Theatre Club, New York’s City Center, Second Stage Theatre, Irish Repertory Theatre, Roundabout, and 52nd St. Project, where he teaches, writes and directs.
Jonathan’s Broadway/London supervising director credits include The Iceman Cometh starring Paul Giamatti and Kevin Spacey, Private Lives starring Alan Rickman, and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolf starring Sir David Suchet and Dame Diana Rigg.
Jonathan has been the supervising director of around fourteen New York productions. He serves as the Artistic Director of The Performing Arts Project and an Artistic Associate at the Eugene O’Neill Center’s National Theater Institute.

Susan has been enjoying a blissful marital life ever since she married director and playwright Bernstein. There have been no rumors of any dissension in their wedded bliss.
During the 2013 to 2014 season, Jonathan directed Susan’s play The Shape Sha Makes at the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge. He served as an artistic director while his wife was a choreographer and played the part of Quincy’s mother, Louise.
Misner co-conceived the work with her long-time partner. She said, “I had this inkling of an idea, Can people really change? What makes people change? Is it love; is it fear?” she added she planted the seed and “Jonathan and I watered it together.”
The Shape She Makes is a story expressed in the form of dance and dialogue by a collaboration of A-list Broadway professional dancer-actors. Susan also appeared in one of the leading roles and created the movement. Jonathan wrote scripts and directed them.
Susan and Jonathan are both avid dog lovers and have a German shepherd named Bailey. The actress said, “He gets anxious and has to be taken out when the action gets confrontational.”
Born and raised in Paterson, New Jersey, US, Susan landed her first role in a professional musical when she was 17 in the early 1990s, just after graduating from high school. She performed in a revival of director Rob Marshal’s A Chorus Line.
