Susan Kihika Biography

Susan Wakarura Kihika is a popular Kenyan lawyer, politician, and the present governor of Nakuru County. She is also the first female governor of Nakuru County. She was elected as a senator in 2017 on Jubilee Party as a Majority whip. She held the position until the 11th of May 2020 when she was substituted by Senator Irungu Kang’ata now the governor of Muranga County.

Earlier to that, she served as the first female speaker of the Nakuru County Assembly and also retained the position of the Vice Chair of the County Assemblies Forum (CAF). Kihika is the best-known philanthropist and has been concerned with community projects and charity work including supporting women’s groups across the county.

She is a potent advocate for the rights and welfare of children, particularly those living with disabilities, and the betterment of girl child education She is among the most distinguished female politicians in the country and is also the President of the IPU Bureau of Women Parliamentarians. She was a gubernatorial candidate for Nakuru County in the 2022 Kenyan general election.

She won the election on a UDA ticket and Kenya Kwanza coalition in the August 2022 election and proceeded with the former Governor Lee Kinyanjui who was defending his seat on a Jubilee ticket. Nakuru governor and former Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika picked David Kones as her deputy governor. Kones is a former High School Principal, a clergyman, and has a degree in conflict management.

Susan Kihiki is the governor of Nakuru County following the August 9, 2022, election. The third governor said on Twitter after being declared the winner, “Thank You to the great people of Nakuru County for giving me a resounding mandate to be the 3rd Governor of NC. It’s a huge privilege & honor with great responsibility. I will give it my all, and together we will get it on the path to economic prosperity and make it work for all!”

Susan was elected as the governor of Nakuru county after Kenya general election held on 9 August 2022. Kihika vied for the seat of MP for Bahati constituency back in the year 2013 and was defeated.
