The former mayor of Kolkata Subrata Mukhopadhyay, the minister of four state departments, including panchayats and rural development, has died due to a heart attack at SSKM.
Subrata Mukhopadhyay suffered a heart attack on Thursday evening while undergoing treatment at SSKM Hospital.
The condition worsened, and he was transferred to the ICU.
According to the hospital, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee rushed to SSKM to see the minister, but he passed away at 9.22 pm.
The minister was 75 years old at the time of his death.
On October 24, Subrata Mukhopadhyay felt sick at home and was rushed to SSKM Hospital.
He was admitted to the ICU after a preliminary examination in the cardiology department and supplied with Oxygen under review.
Mukhopadhyay was admitted to the ICU under the supervision of cardiologist Saroj Mandal. He was later placed on non-invasive ventilation or BiPAP support.

Subrata Mukhopadhyay was an Indian politician serving as Cabinet Minister of the Government of West Bengal and a sitting member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.
Subrata was a member of the All India Trinamool Congress.
Mukhopadhyay also served as the 36th Mayor of Kolkata from 2000 to 2005.
Subrata started his political career as a student leader early during his higher secondary education in Kolkata.
Mukhopadhyay joined the Chhatra Parishad, a student organisation affiliated with the Indian National Congress, in the 1960s. During this period, Subrata made the acquaintance of Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi.
Mukhopadhyay was considered one of the two close aides of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi. CPIM leaders used a slogan “Indirar dui putra Priyo Ranjan o Subrata”
In 1971 and 1972, Mukherjee was elected to the legislative assembly from the Ballygunge Assembly constituency.
In 1972, Subrata was appointed as Minister of State in the Siddhartha Shankar Ray ministry as Minister of Information and Cultural Affairs.
Mukhopadhyay also held additional responsibility as Minister of State for local government.
