In the early 1980s, Steve Ramsey joined the British heavy metal band Satan, with whom he recorded a single and an album, followed by a second album under the band name Blind Fury, an EP and another album after changing the band name back to Satan, and two more albums after changing the band name once more – to Pariah.
Skyclad was formed in 1990 as a result of the disbanding of Pariah, in which he collaborated with vocalist Martin Walkyier (ex-Sabbat) to create an extreme metal band with significant folk elements.
Clearly inspired by vintage hard rock bands such as Thin Lizzy, Uriah Heep, and others, Ramsey has created a unique sound. The band’s “traditional” origins grew more and more apparent in their music as time went on, despite the fact that they began as a thrash metal band with folk elements. Steve Ramsey has also taken part in other musical endeavours, such as Forgodsake, where he served as album guest and live guitarist for the band. Steve Ramsey also works as a guitar and bass guitar instructor at a number of schools in the North-East, including Benfield School, where he is now employed.
