Steve Jobs Facts: Health Problems, Resignation From Apple, Quotes, Awards And Honors

Steve Jobs was the co-founder of Apple Inc., an American businessman, industrial designer, investor, and media proprietor.

Steve Jobs Health problem

Jobs was diagnosed with cancer in 2003 and announced to his employees in 2004. According to him at the time, he had a cancerous tumor in his pancreas, known as islet cell neuroendocrine tumor, one he described as rare and less aggressive.

It is believed that Jobs did not take his condition seriously enough and that may have led to what some refer to as an unnecessarily early death.

Although many were concerned about Jobs health, a private conversation with The New York Times by Apple revealed that,

“While his health problems amounted to a good deal more than ‘a common bug’, they weren’t life-threatening, and he doesn’t have a recurrence of cancer.”

Jobs underwent a liver transplant at Methodist University Hospital Transplant Institute in Memphis, Tennessee in April 2009 during which his prognosis was described as “excellent”.

Steve Jobs Resignation From Apple

On August 24, 2011, Jobs wrote to the Apple board informing them of his resignation as Apple’s CEO. In the resignation letter, he said,

“I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.”

He became chairman of the board and named Tim Cook as CEO.

Steve Jobs Death Rumors

There were some rumors of Steve Job’s death in 2008. Apparently, Bloomberg mistakenly published an obituary of Jobs in August that year. It turns out that they had prepared his obituary with his date and cause of death left blank waiting to be published on the day of his death. The document was mistakenly published before Jobs’ death. Although the mistake was quickly ratified, some online news portals reported on it. This caused somewhat widespread rumors of his death.

In September 2008 during Apple’s Let’s Rock keynote, Jobs responded saying,

“Reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.”
