A Volusia County woman was sentenced to 12 years in prison for the death of her 5-month-old son, who was repeatedly hit and thrown to the floor when he refused to stop crying.
According to Michigan State Police, the 5-month-old boy was killed on June 12, 2019, when his father dropped him on his head and slammed him onto a table.
Daemon, the former couple’s son, was about five months old and weighed about 12 pounds when he was killed. According to a report, the couple and their son lived in a mobile home at 19 N. Yonge St. in Ormond Beach when Scott called 911 on June 11, 2019, to report that his son was having difficulty breathing.
Police claim Holly was aware of cruelty to her son during his brief life, including cigarette burns to his ears, even though she was at work at the time.
Ormond Beach Police detectives stated that this is the most heinous crime they have ever investigated.
Stephanie Holly Arrested And Charged For Her 5-month-old Son’s Death
According to the State Attorney’s Office for Volusia and Flagler Counties, Stephanie Holly, 37, pleaded no contest to charges of neglect of a child causing great bodily harm, failure to report child abuse/neglect, and culpable negligence expose injury.
Holly was found guilty by Circuit Judge Dawn Nichols on Friday and sentenced to prison for 12 years, followed by eight years of probation. Assistant State Attorney Andrew Urbanak prosecuted the case successfully for the State. The Honorable Dawn Nichols, who presided over the issue, pronounced the sentence.
She told officers that the child’s injuries were caused by a box fan falling on his face by accident. According to a police report, she was unaware of the child’s cigarette burn and explained that he thought his injuries were “not that bad.”
Where Is The Child’s Father, Calib J. Scott?
The infant’s father, Caleb J. Scott, is currently incarcerated after being found guilty of first-degree murder, severe child abuse, and neglect of a child endangering substantial bodily damage.
Prosecutors say Scott took care of Damon in Ormond Beach in 2019 when the infant wouldn’t stop crying. Prosecutors claim he then repeatedly hit the 5-month-old and dropped him on the floor to get him to stop crying.
Damon was found unresponsive and dehydrated when first responders arrived. He was taken to a local hospital and later declared dead. According to the arrest report, medical workers found the child with wounds on his face, a possible cigarette burn behind his ear, and bruises in various stages of healing.
Moreover, Holly, Scott’s ex-girlfriend, was arrested in Michigan in 2020. In June 2019, Holly was questioned by Ormond Beach police after she and Scott called 911 to report that their child was not breathing.
