Stefan Molyneux – General Information

Stefan Molyneux was born Stefan Basil Molyneux on September 24, 1966 in Athlone, Ireland but was raised in London, England. Around the age of 11, his family emigrated to Canada, a place he calls home today. As a young man, Molyneux had hoped to become an actor. He attended York University’s art college, Glendon College, and performed at Theater Glendon. He then attended the National Theater School of Canada in Montreal before giving up his acting ambition to study history.

Molyneux enrolled at McGill University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History in 1991. Two years later, in 1993, he earned a Masters in History from the University of Toronto. The former actor didn’t seem to put his education to good use as he and his brother founded an IT company called Caribou Systems Corporation, which provides environmental database software in 1995. Molyneux was heavily involved in the company until its sale in 2000.

In 2005, he started a podcast called FreedomainRadio (FDR), then a website of the same name where he airs his views on issues concerning politics, relationships, race, and more. He also gives his opinion on current affairs and advises listeners and viewers on specific issues.

In several counseling sessions, Molyneux advised listeners to dissociate themselves from their families if they felt their relationships were harmful. It has been reported that more than 50,000 of his listeners worldwide have severed ties with their families, a move that has led him to come under investigation as a cult leader. The British Cult Information Centre, which noted that one of the main signs of a cult was that they had cut people off from their families, reportedly launched an investigation, although nothing was done.

Christina Papadopoulos was convicted of fabricating statements in support of the claim that were not supported by professional literature or consistent with psychological standards. She accepted the blame and pledged to stop giving psychological counseling.
