Slave Band Members
Slaves band members are Isaac Holman and Laurence “Laurie” Vincent. Both members play various instruments within the band.
Aside from being the founding members, Holman and Vincent are the only members the band has had in the decade-plus time it has been active. The roles of each member of the band are:
- Isaac Holman – lead vocals, drums, trumpet, and flute
- Laurence “Laurie” Vincent – backing vocals, guitar, bass, and keyboards
Isaac Holman
Issac Holman is the 31-year-old lead vocals of the band formerly known as Slaves. Holman was born on October 30, 1991, in the UK.
Aside from his singing, Holman is also famous for his drumming and is one of the rare singer-drummer combos present in modern pop music. The singer has also amassed a lot of fans outside of music for being very open about his mental health struggles and the toll that a life in music can bring to performers.
Outside of Slaves, Holman is also known for his musical side-project Baby Dave, which is more in the realms of Indie-Pop and as such, separate from the music he makes with his main band. So far, the singer has only released one album called Monkey Brain on April 22, 2022.
Lastly, the singer is a frequent collaborator of the famous British singer Damon Albarn, known for fronting the Britpop band Blur, and for being part of the duo behind the virtual rock band, Gorillaz. Holman was one of the many collaborators for the 2020 Gorillaz album, Song Machine: Season One.
Laurence “Laurie” Vincent
Laurence Vincent is the 30-year-old instrumentalist of the band formerly known as Slaves. Most known as Laurie, he was born on December 28, 1992.
Vincent hails from the English town of Brighton, which is located in East Sussex. As stated earlier, Vincent’s role can be surmised as being the guitarist of the band and taking care of most of the instruments outside of the drums.
Like Holman, Vincent also has an Indie Pop side project called LARRY PINK THE HUMAN. However, his project isn’t solo as it also features Jolyon Thomas, with whom he has released six singles, an EP called Might Delete Later (Remixed), and a mixtape called M1xtape.
Sadly, Vincent is perhaps more known by the general public due to a tragedy that rocked his life back in 2020 when he lost his longtime girlfriend, Emma Jane Mulholland to cancer. Mulholland was only 32 years old and left behind two children named Bart, a son, and Summer, a daughter, who Vincent has been raising since.

Why Did Slaves Change Their Name?
Slaves name changed to Soft Play in December 2022. The band’s original name had been a point of concertation throughout their career.
Even as far back as 2015, the band had been bombarded with accusations of being edgy for edginess’s sake for naming themselves Slaves. According to NME, the band stated that they’ve given themselves that name simply to use an abrasive word in the vein of the Clash.
Though they apologized for hurting any people with their name, they chose to keep it. However, over 7 years after the initial articles lambasting their name, the band posted a message on social media stating that they would be changing their name from Slaves to Soft Play.
