Following the departures of Roger Taylor and Andy Taylor, Simon Le Bon, Rhodes, and John Taylor continued to release albums as Duran Duran, including “Notorious” (1986) and “Big Thing” (1988).
For the studio album “Liberty” (1990), the band added guitarist Warren Cuccurullo and drummer Sterling Campbell. However, their popularity began to wane in the late 1980s.
Duran Duran’s success returned in 1993 with the publication of “The Wedding Album,” which included the smash single “Ordinary World.” Le Bon sustained a torn voice cord during the major worldwide concert tour in support of the record, necessitating a six-week suspension of the tour for his recovery.
Duran Duran’s “Thank You” covers album was published in 1995, giving Le Bon the opportunity to cover songs by some of his favorite artists, including Jim Morrison, Lou Reed, and Elvis Costello. However, the album garnered widespread criticism from a variety of sources.
The same year, Le Bon sang Duran Duran’s 1993 hit “Ordinary World” with opera tenor Luciano Pavarotti at a War Child benefit performance named “Children of Bosnia.” Pavarotti inspired Le Bon, who said, “If you’re talking about name-dropping, he’s one of the biggest names you could drop, Pav-The-Man.”
