Shelley Rody, 58, of Elkhart and Punta Gorda, Florida, died suddenly on Friday, March 18, 2022, at HCA Florida Fawcett Hospital in Port Charlotte, Florida.
Shelley’s visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2022, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Beginning at 7:30 p.m., the evening will conclude with a parish rosary.
On Friday, at 11:00 a.m., a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1405 N. Main St., Elkhart, where friends may call for one hour prior to the mass. Reverend Jason Freiburger will preside over the ceremony.

She was employed by Elkhart General Hospital/Beacon Medical Group as a Media & Special Events Coordinator as well as a floor secretary.
She was a parishioner at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, where she was a lector.
Shelley’s Catholic faith was central to her life; she was the bright light that illuminated a room with her joy, love, and upbeat attitude.
She and her husband fulfilled a long-held dream by purchasing a home in Punta Gorda, Florida, nine years ago. Her life was divided between her old home in Indiana and her new home in Florida.
She adored the sunshine, water, and laid-back atmosphere of her new home state. She was a gourmet cook who enjoyed entertaining, and her greatest joy came from sharing her talent and dreams with others.
“She wasn’t the life of the party, she was the party,” her brother said. She’ll be sorely missed.

Shelly Rode was a proud 1982 graduate of Elkhart Memorial High School.
Shelly married her true love and best friend, Christopher W. Rody, on July 1, 1989. Her loving daughter Lauren Michelle Rody (Richard Smith) of Elkhart, son Tyler Christian Rody (Hailey Shuster) of Austin, Texas, and other family members survive her husband of 32 years, Chris.
Following her burial, there will be a graveside service at St. Vincent Cemetery.
