Sharon Tate Death Cause: What actually happened to Sharon Tate?
On August 9, 1969, Sharon Tate and four others were murdered by members of the Manson Family, a cult, in the home she shared with Polanski.
The 26-year-old Tate was eight-and-a-half months pregnant when she was killed.
Her life ended most brutally when she was stabbed 16 times by crazed members of the Charles Manson Family.
Tate, along with friends Jay Sebring, Wojciech Frykowski and Abigal Folger had been enjoying dinner when the Manson Family burst into the home she was renting with her husband, Roman, who was away in Europe at the time.
Sharon was stabbed many times in the chest and strangled.
Her mutilated and broken body was found with the cord used in the killing still around her neck.
In September 1969, members of the Manson “Family” were arrested on unrelated charges and while Atkins was in custody she told her fellow prisoners of the other crimes she had been involved in including the murders.
Their trial began on June 15, 1970. The family clarified that the motive for the murders was not the identity of the victims, but rather the house at that address, which had previously been rented to record producer Terry Melcher, an acquaintance of Manson.
Guilty verdicts were returned on 27 separate counts and all four were sentenced to death.
