Talking about her career, she has spoken “Being in the film and tv industry for nearly 20 years I have always struggled with being part Asian. Am I too Chinese for a role or not Chinese enough. Thoughts would run through my head about only being hired to fill a diverse quota or if they had ONE Asian actor on that show as a lead, they definitely wouldn’t hire another…etc
I can honestly say that there were many times I wished I looked more like my Irish grandmother than my Chinese grandfather. Embarrassed to embrace my Asian culture because I didn’t feel like there was a safe space to be me in an industry I wanted validation from.
I wish I could go back and tell my younger self to never ever ever apologize for being born the Chirish☘️ girl that I am. We all deserve to feel safe and seen in this ever changing flawed world. Thank you to my Chinese ancestors for paving the way, I won’t let you down.”
