She made her television acting debut in the recurring character of Millicent in the 1Magic soap opera The River, which she initially appeared in on January 29, 2020, in Season 3, Episode 3.

Shalate received her first starring part on television the following year, in the e.tv soapie House of Zwide, as Shoki, Ona Molapo’s best friend (played by Nefisa Mkhabela).
