Smart’s second season began with forward Larry Sanders declaring for the 2010 NBA Draft after his junior season. Sanders’ selection by the Milwaukee Bucks with the 15th pick made VCU the first school in the Commonwealth of Virginia to have a player selected in the first round of the NBA Draft in consecutive years, as the Utah Jazz had selected guard Eric Maynor with the 20th pick in the 2009 NBA Draft.

The Longhorns are without a single commit for the 2019 Texas basketball recruiting class up to this point. And with the 2018-19 college basketball season creeping up closer and closer, head Texas basketball coach Shaka Smart needs to get things moving on the recruiting trail soon.
More than half of the Big 12 basketball programs already have at least one commitment for the 2019 recruiting cycle. This is unusual for the Horns given the prowess of the recruiting over the past five years, especially in the years under Smart.
Even former head coach Rick Barnes did a great job on the recruiting trail and continues to do so at his current destination with the Tennessee Volunteers.
