Sean Bean Parents: Meet Brian Bean, Rita Bean

Sean Bean, whose real name is Shaun Mark Bean, is a well-known English actor who has appeared on both stage and television. On April 17, 1959, he was born in Handsworth, a Sheffield suburb, to parents Rita and Brian K. Bean.

Harold Bean Jr., his paternal grandfather, was a stud mill laborer who served in the Royal Navy during WWII and eventually became a pacifist.

Despite their rather fortunate financial status, his family elected to remain on the council estate in order to be closer to their friends and family.

Bean suffered a serious leg injury as a boy when he smashed a glass door during an altercation, leaving a shard of glass stuck in his thigh and a massive scar. Because of his injury, he was unable to pursue his childhood dream of becoming a professional player.

Bean worked at a store after finishing his O levels in Art and English, and later for the local council. Later, he worked as a secretary for his father’s fabrication company.

Bean discovered his interest in art while studying welding at Rotherham College of Arts and Technology, and he finally enrolled in a theater program, which led to him winning a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA).
