Scorigami Scores In NFL History

Scorigami in NFL history has occurred 1,078 times to date. The unique score sequence has occurred three times so far in the 2023 season.

The term ‘Scorigami’ is a made-up word. The mind behind the entire concept of finding out unique scores was studied and brought to light by Jon Bois in 2016.

Bois is a sports writer for SB Nation and currently works as a creative director for the sports blogging network.

The most recent outcome was 25-11 in the week three game, where the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, marking the 1,078th occurrence.

The 1,076th and the 1,077th distinctive scores were scored in  Baltimore Ravens vs. Houston Texans (25-9) and Miami Dolphins vs. Denver Broncos (70-20).

On the flip side, there are many scores that we have witnessed numerous times and are most common to occur.

The totals like 20-17, 27-24, and 17-14 have appeared in the NFL 200+ times, individually. The 20-17 has appeared the most times (284).

Scorigami NFL list for some franchise is discussed below:

Seattle Seahawks Streak

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll has recorded ten Scorigami since taking the role in 2010. The latest was the 2022 fixture against the Lions (48-45).

It was a great coincidence that Carroll was part of nine new NFL scores from 2010 to 2018. His side was involved in a new record each year and won every one of them.

Scorigami Super Bowl

Scorigami Super Bowl includes Super Bowls XXI, XXIV, and XLVIII. All three NFL title games featured the Denver Broncos as the losing team.

The three-time Vince Lombardi Trophy winners (1997, 1998, and 2015) found themselves on the wrong side on these occasions.

SB XXI was played on January 25, 1987, when the Giants outscored the Broncos 39-20. Bill Parcell’s side lifted the franchise’s first SB.

The game was played at the Rose Bowl, and QB Phil Simms was awarded the SB Most Valuable Player.

Similarly, the 49ers were the victors in the SB XXIV, defeating the Broncos 55-10. The contest took place in the Louisiana Superdome on the 28th of January, 2000.

The SB MVP Joe Montana threw five passing touchdowns, and the 49ers dominated their opponent from the get-go.

The 2014 Vince Lombardi contest held at MetLife Stadium on February 2, 2014, was the last SB that earned the term. Pete Caroll’s Seahawks won by 43-8.

Linebacker Malcolm Smith’s heroics helped Seattle claim their only SB title. He made six solo and ten combined tackles, intercepted and returned the ball for a 69-yard TD, and deflected a pass in the game.

His SB MVP award made him one of the ten defensive players in NFL history to claim the trophy.

What Is A Scorigami In NFL Football?

Scorigami in the NFL is a final score combination that has never been achieved. One such example is the Eagles vs. Buccaneers 25-11 score.

The 26th September fixture at the Raymond James Stadium marked the 1,078th in the league.

Below is the breakdown of the unique score

  • The Eagles:
    • Three field goals – 9 points
    • Two touchdowns and one-point conversions – 14 points
    • Two-point safety by the Eagles – 2 points
  • The Buccs
    • One FG – 3 points
    • Touchdown and two-point conversion – 8

It Is Affected By How Points Are Scored

In fast-paced modern football, the scoresheet is often dominated by field goals and touchdowns rewarding three and six points, respectively.

The one or two-point conversion after a TD is also known to all.

But there are other ways of scoring, like the two-point safety. It happens when the defense pins down the offense in their own end zone, or the offense is penalized while playing from their end zone.

The mistake by the offense in their own end zone can give away two points and the possession of the ball. It is rarely seen in the NFL.

Another rarest scoring method is a 1-point safety, which has never been seen in the league’s 100+ years of history. For this, the offense should lose the ball in their own end zone while trying for a one or two-point conversion after a TD.

It sounds insane and almost impossible to achieve.

The scores of 1-1, 1-0, 2-1, 3-1, 4-1, 5-1, and 7-1 are impossible by any means, as another team will need a touchdown to get one-point safety.

The Ultimate One

The scoring combination of 6-1 is called the ultimate scorigami. It is the lowest possible scoring sequence with 1 point for the opponent.

Many questions: Is 6-1 possible? Or why is 6-1 not impossible?

The 6-1 is a feasible score. For this to happen, the offense should score a touchdown (six points) and, in return, will have to lose the ball way back in their end zone while going for conversion and award safety to the defense (one point).

Going by the rule book, it is a possibility. But, since one-point safety is yet to occur in the National Football League, we might very well forget the possibility of its existence.
