Beauty, they say, is in the eyes of the beholder, but with Scarlett Johansson, it seems to be in the eyes of anyone willing to admit it. The actress, best known for appearing in films such as Lost in Translation (2003), Lucy (2014) and as Black Widow in the Marvel CinematicUniverse films, has been described as a Hollywood sex symbol and twice recognized as one by Esquire in 2006 and 2013 “Sexiest Woman Alive” award. They also received similar nicknames from other publications such as Playboy (2007), Men’s Health (2011) and GQ (2010).

Rated among the highest paid actresses in the world between 2014 and 2016, Johansson has earned streaks as a stage performer and won a Tony Award for Best Actress for her role in the Broadway show A View From the Bridge (2010).

biography

Johansson was born Scarlett Ingrid Johansson of four children to Karsten Olaf Johansson and Melanie Sloan on November 22, 1984 in Manhattan, New York. Her father is an architect while her mother worked as a producer. She is of Danish, Swedish and Ashkenazi Jewish descent.

Johansson attended a public elementary school in Manhattan. She had hoped to be an entertainer growing up, so she often put on shows for her family. With the support of her parents, she took after-school tap dancing classes to learn the art form before enrolling at the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute and later performing in an Off-Broadway play called Sophistry.

Around the age of 9, Scarlett Johansson was cast in her first film, a fantasy comedy titled North (1994). She then went on to appear in Just Cause (1995) as the daughter of Sean Connery and then in When Lucy Fell (1996). During this time, the young actress had become a student at the Professional Children’s School (PCS) in Manhattan. Her big break came when she landed the lead role in the comedy-drama Manny & Lo (1996), her performance received positive reviews and earned her an Independent Spirit Award nomination.

Despite personal troubles at home when her parents divorced, the teenage actress continued to win the hearts of moviegoers for her role in The Horse Whisperer (1998), which earned her a promising acting nomination at the Chicago Film Critics Association Awards.

Most of the time, high-profile teenage actors have a difficult time growing up, but that wasn’t the case with Scarlett Johansson. In 2003, at the age of nineteen, the young actress put all doubts to rest after landing her roles in Lost in Translation and Girl with a Pearl Earring (both 2003), both of which achieved commercial success and earned her a Best Actress nomination at the Golden Globe and BAFTA Awards. However, she only won at the BAFTAs for the former.

Scarlett Johansson twin and sister

Scarlett isn’t the only actor in the Johansson family as her older siblings; Brother Adrian and sister Vanessa, as well as their twin brother Hunter, have all stepped in front of the camera in the past despite not being able to achieve half the success of their sister.

Adrian Johansson, born November 3, 1976 in New York, appeared in “Rain” (2001) before voicing Rockstar Games characters. Her sister Vannessa Johansson, who was born in New York on January 12, 1980, is best known for her role in films such as Battle for Terra (2007) and The Target (2008), while her twin, Hunter Johansson, only appeared in Manny & Lo (1996), which had his famous sister in a leading role. He has since given up his acting career and focused on other work outside of entertainment, such as politics and other charity events. He notably participated in the 2008 election of President Barack Obama and the 2012 re-election campaigns.

Husband / boyfriend, divorce and daughter

Scarlett Johansson has been married twice; first to Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds and then to French businessman Romain Dauriac. She began dating Reynolds in 2007 before marrying him a year later. By December 2010, the couple separated before finally divorcing in July 2011. She began dating Dauriac the following year and became engaged to him in September 2013.

During this time, the two split their time between New York and Paris and were always spotted side by side. Sometime in 2014, they welcomed a daughter named Rose Dorothy Dauriac before saying their vows in October of that year. The couple called it quits in mid-2016 and finalized divorce proceedings in September 2017.
