The parents of a Sandy Hook shooting victim suing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones reportedly sequestered themselves and hired security following a series of “encounters” in Texas.
Several Sandy Hook families, including Heslin and Lewis, have filed lawsuits, claiming they have been abusing victims because of the Sandy Hook hoax claims for years.
Heslin described how he could hold his son when he had a gunshot hole in his skull, going so far as to tell the magnitude of the injury to his baby’s body. A 2017 Infowars broadcast that claimed Heslin didn’t hold his son is a crucial element of the case.
A school photo of a happy Jesse taken two weeks before his death was displayed to the jury. It wasn’t until after the shooting that the parents saw the picture.
Sandy Hooks: Does Alex Jones Have Cancer?
At the court hearing, Alex’s attorneys claim that Jones has multiple health issues, including a nasal obstruction.
Online speculations, however, assert that he has cancer, albeit this is yet to be confirmed.
His lawyers requested that the judge dismiss the families’ plea to hold him in contempt of court for his absence in a court filing submitted on Monday.
Attorneys for the families said in the documents that Mr. Jones “was back on the air from his studio, explaining to his audience that the acute medical problem that allegedly developed just days before his deposition turned out to be “a blockage in his sinus.”
Why Is He Being Sued? Trial And Court case Details
Jones is being sued for defamation by Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis, the parents of Sandy Hook victim Jesse Lewis.
Alex, the creator of the conspiracy website Infowars, has frequently asserted that Jesse, 19 other children, and six adults did not perish at the elementary school in the shooting.
As reported by Reuters, Jones has retracted these statements and is the target of numerous defamation lawsuits from Sandy Hook families claiming that Jones’ statements caused harassment.
During Heslin’s testimony, Alex Jones was absent from court. Throughout the two-week trial, Jones missed most of the testimony, and when he did show up, he was escorted by a team of bodyguards.
The final day of the hearing was set for Tuesday, and Jones was anticipated to testify alone on his own.
Jones has characterized the legal action brought against him as a violation of his First Amendment rights.
What Did Alex Jones Say About Sandy Hook? Conspiracy Theories
The Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy in 2012 left the parents of a 6-year-old child dead fight back the tears when they finally had the opportunity to meet conspiracy theorist Jones.
The court reprimanded the boisterous Jones for not being accurate with part of what he stated under oath during the parents’ day-long emotional testimony.
The final day of testimony in the two-week-long defamation damages trial against Jones and his media business Free Speech Systems saw Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis, whose son Jesse was shot at Sandy Hook, take the witness box.
On his televised program earlier that day, Jones informed his audience that Heslin was “slow” and being controlled by evil people.
As restitution for defamation and willful infliction of emotional distress, the parents are asking the jury to award them $150 million.
The court will then decide if Jones and his business must pay compensatory damages.
