Sammy Watkins was of great importance to the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League (NFL). He plays as a wide receiver for the team and has achieved great success throughout his professional career. The NFL payer started from his high school days to impress in-game stakeholders as well as his peers. He was drafted fourth overall by the Buffalo Bills in the 2014 NFL Draft. Here you will find everything you need to know.

Sammy Watkins’ bio

He was born on June 14, 1993 in Fort Myers, Florida. Always inclined to soccer, he started playing at a young age. At South Fort Myers High School, where he attended, Sammy Watkins was a guru in several sports including: basketball, track and field and of course soccer. But because of his impressive records, he became more and more famous in football.

Watkins recorded 133 catches for 2,997 yards and made 36 touchdowns in high school. One of his notable achievements at the time was leading his school side to the 3A semi-finals, which they lost to Miami Norland. He was ranked a five-star recruit and the third-best receiver in the country by Rivlas.com.

After his very impressive high school, Watkins received scholarship offers from more than four schools, but chose Clemson University in 2010. He earned the prestigious title of MVP at the 2014 Orange Bowl after catching 16 receptions for 227 yards that year.

Injury and career statistics

Knowing he was more than ready to turn pro, Sammy finished his senior year to enter the 2014 NFL draft. He was selected in the first round as the fourth overall pick by the Buffalo Bills in the 2014 draft. Because of his outstanding performances, he was the first receiver selected by the team in the first round of the NFL draft since 2004. That same year, he signed a four-year, $19.94 million contract with the team and received a $12.8 million contract-signing bonus. He finished the 2014 season with 65 receptions for 982 yards and six touchdown passes.

Watkins was greeted with a calf injury in the 2015 season, playing just three of the first five games. The NFL player has caught 25 passes for 314 yards and just one 100-yard receiving game in his first seven games due to his injury. But he’s struggled to do better in the last six games, rushing for 679 yards with 35 catches and six touchdowns.

Watkins was placed on injured reserve in the 2016 season after he was diagnosed with a broken bone in his foot. He later became a free agent after the 2017 season. Watkins joined the Los Angeles Rams in August 2017. The following year, he joined the Kansas City Chiefs on a three-year, $48 million contract.

Profile design by Sammy Watkins

We can set aside the fact that Sammy was a well-known sprinter in Florida, where he was born, but we can’t help but consider that the NFL player went down in history as the fourth freshman in NCAA history and received the award for AP’s first All-America team.

This no doubt outweighs his short streak after suffering an injury to his right shoulder against Wake Forest. Watkins’ tales of woe increased when he was suspended for two games for having non-prescribed marijuana and pills in his possession. On a more positive note, Watkins returned for 1,376 yards for 60 kickoffs and also had 9-23 punts back overall before his draft. At Clemson, he had 240 career receptions and 3,391 reception yards.

Family life – wife, children, siblings

He was born to his parents; Sammy Watkins III, his father and Nicole McMiller, his mother. Sammy has an older half-brother, Jaylen Watkins, who plays defense at the Los Angeles Chargers. The brothers, who all had parental support, were drafted together in the 2014 NFL Draft, albeit by 97 picks apart.

Watkins is the father of three beautiful girls he had with two different women. He is not married to any of his daughters’ mothers.
