At this time his weight ballooned. Sammo found work in the film industry as a stuntman and was given a nickname after the well-known Chinese cartoon character Sam-mo. In 1988, Sammo starred in Alex Law’s Painted Faces. Among the exercises featured in the film are numerous acrobatic backflips, and hours of handstands performed against a wall.

Sammo Hung Gar Bo Motion Picture Company
Sammo formed Gar Bo Motion Picture Company in 1978. It was a subsidiary for Golden Harvest. The director was Karl Maka and former actor-choreographer Lau Kar Wing (brother of actors Lau Kar-leung and Gordon Liu).
