Samara Joy Parents: Who Are Samara Joy Parents?

Samara Joy won Best New Artist and Best Jazz Vocal Album at the 2023 Grammys.

The Best New Artist category at the 2023 Grammys, which as usual used a broad definition of “new,” was the center of attention. Let’s talk about her parents.

Samara Joy’s Parents: Who Are Samara Joy’s Parents?

Antonio McLendon and Samara Joy are related through their same mother, Mrs. (Mother). Her father was able to tour with gospel singer Andrae Crouch because Antonio is a well-known bass musician.

He helped Samara get into the jazz program at Purchase College. He inspired her to declare voice as her major. She was designated an Ella Fitzgerald Scholar.

Elder Goldwire and Ruth McLendon, Samara’s grandparents, created the gospel group The Savettes, which is based in Philadelphia.

Soul and Motown were also prominent in her home, and her dad exposed her to gospel greats like The Clark Sisters.

Samara Joy, a first-time nominee whose album Linger Awhile was up for Best Jazz Vocal Album in 2022, is a real up-and-comer. Joy is one of the youngest musicians among the nominees at 23, and her career is only now starting to take off.

Samara Joy McLendon, an American jazz vocalist better known by her stage name Samara Joy, has received a Grammy Award. After taking first place in the 2019 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition, she was chosen as Jazz Times’ Best New Artist for 2021.
