Sam Buttrey is one of the final contestants on Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions.
He became the first-ever Jeopardy! Professors Tournament Champions by passing test questions at the competition.
Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions is a two-week tournament that presents up to 15 players who won at least 5 games or have won at least 5 games in a row.
Jeopardy! is a quiz tournament quite different from the traditional quiz game. Instead of giving random questions, the participants are given general knowledge clues as answers. The contestants must identify the idea the clue tells by phrasing it in a question pattern.
Each game has around three rounds in which the contestants are given trivia clues phrased answers to which they should respond as questions.
The first two rounds of Jeopardy! and Double Jeopardy! are played on an expansive computerized board with six separate categories and five hints for each. The dollar values denote the clues rise along with the difficulty level. The number of clues also doubles in Double Jeopardy! Round.
After the clue is given in the Final Jeopardy!, contestants are given around 30 seconds to write their responses on the electronic display. Finally, the contestant with the highest score at the end of the day is considered a winner.
