The NASCAR Xfinity Series will make its yearly stop at Pocono Raceway this Saturday for what is expected to be the next development in the battle for the regular season championship. For Sage Karam, though, it will be much more than that.
It will be Karam’s first appearance at Pocono since being engaged in a life-and-career-altering incident there in 2015. He will be operating the No. 45 for Alpha Prime Racing.
Karam is prepared to return to Pocono and close a difficult chapter in his life seven years after his incident in Turn 1 resulted in the death of experienced racer Justin Wilson.
Sage Karam Pocono Crash: What Happened To Him At The IndyCar Race?
With 21 circuits remaining in a race in August 2015, Karam lost control and crashed. As the remainder of the field passed by, debris was thrown across the track.
Sage ended the 2015 IndyCar season 20th in points, losing out to rival Gabby Chaves for rookie of the year honors as Saavedra was back in the car for the season finale at Sonoma.
In addition to continuing his transition into stock car racing, Karam now returns to the circuit that forever changed his life to give himself some much-needed, fought-for closure.

Sage Karam Caused Justin Wilson Wreck And Death- Racer Still Feels Broken
Justin Wilson was smacked in the head by the nose cone from Karam’s car as it bounced across the track.
Wilson received a severe head injury and was rushed to the hospital in the area; unfortunately, he passed away there the next day.
His fatal crash increased calls for IndyCar to seal the cockpit, much like Jules Bianchi’s crash in 2014 did for Formula 1.
Karam’s progress toward a full-time IndyCar career lost steam and became a string of special appearances.
Along with re-establishing contact with a sports psychologist, he joined his father as an assistant coach of the Easton High School wrestling team.
He has been able to forgive himself owing to a friendship with Justin’s brother Stefan and connecting with Wilson’s two daughters.
