Ryan Shazier injury updates, is he really paralyzed?

Currently, the football player is recovering rapidly outpatient rehabilitation, where his condition is improving significantly. While no one is sure he can return to his position on the field, he is currently on the Pittsburg Steelers reserve roster after a life-threatening bruise left him temporarily paralyzed for five months.

Ryan’s spinal injury came when his head dropped too low during a tackle that saw him fall to the ground and tumble his upper body in a game against the Cincinnati Bengals on December 4, 2017. The painful fall also left his legs immobile, prompting emergency spinal stabilization surgery in Pittsburgh, after which the star was transferred to the inpatient rehabilitation center at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Mercy.

Over time, Ryan began to use a wheelchair, as well as to strengthen his strength with the help of physiotherapists and sports trainers. A few months ago, it was reported that some feelings had returned to his legs and he was working very hard at the rehab center.

Although the nature of Ryan’s football injury is to be further detailed online, initial reports indicate that he suffered a spinal contusion – a bruise that results in swelling and/or bleeding as a result of the rupture. capillaries under the skin. Spinal contusions are very common among footballers. It was the same injury that led to the early retirement of NFL players DeVonte Holloman and Jameel McClain after the duo suffered the bruise in 2013 and 2012 respectively. Prior to their retirement, Holloman and McClain represented the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants as football league linebackers.

As is evident in the football community, Ryan Shazier’s hope of a full recovery is cause for celebration in the American football community. In February 2018, the footballer shared a picture of himself standing and smiling with teammate Ben Rothlisberger. His last public outing came in April when he took the stage with his fiancé to announce Steeler’s first pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
