Media has not revealed how they met, but prior to their July 4, 2012 wedding, they were in a long-term relationship and got engaged in June 2011.

The engagement which happened while they were away on vacation in Paris threw a lot of media attention. The attention was partly due to Sara’s popularity for her role as a bisexual doctor on Grey’s Anatomy.

Many fans had concluded that her impending marriage to a man meant she had no gay traits after all, but they were later proven wrong.

The actress took to her social media account to post the happy news of her engagement to fans, along with a photo of Debolt taking a knee by a fountain.

Their wedding which took place in New York was an intimate one with only close family and friends in attendance, a source revealed to People magazine. It was Sara’s first marriage, when she was 37.

Debolt’s marriage to Ramirez became a topic of much discussion after Ramirez came out as bisexual in October 2016. She made the revelation while speaking at the True Colors Fund’s 40 to None Summit in Los Angeles. It was the first time the actress had spoken publicly about her sexuality.

In his speech, Ramirez spoke about youth experiencing homelessness, emphasizing that it includes those whose lives touch many intersections.

She went on to reveal the intersections that exist in her own life to include “Female, multiracial female, female of color, queer, bisexual, Mexican-American-Irish, immigrant and raised by families strongly rooted in Catholicism on both the Mexican and Irish side. “.

After delivering the speech, Ramirez took to social media to confirm her revelation in a post that read;

Many of her fans applauded her for her courage while others wondered how her sexuality would affect her marriage and whether she was still married to Ryan Debolt.

The truth is that Sara was always bisexual even before she chose Debolt as her husband and the revelation did nothing to sabotage her union.

As of this writing, Debolt and Ramirez have no children. However, before their 2012 wedding, Sara told Latina.com that she was open to starting a family and having children.

“I’m definitely thinking about it – I’ll say this. I’m very aware of my age and what that means in terms of stats, so yeah, I’m considering it. The clock is ticking, and I totally hear it” , the actress told the publication.

However, she has remained very private about her personal life and has never explained to the media why she and her husband Ryan do not yet have children.
