Ryan Bingham Career

He set out on his own at an early age, joining the rodeo circuit as a bull rider in his teens. Bingham learned music on a guitar gifted to him by his mother at age 16, initially playing after rodeos for his friends. Eventually, he began playing in small bars and honky-tonks across the West, landing him in Los Angeles, California. Bingham signed his first record deal with Lost Highway Records (UMG) in 2007

After receiving critical acclaim for his first two studio releases on Lost Highway Records, 2007’s Mescalito and 2009’s Roadhouse Sun, he went on to collaborate with Grammy-winning producer T Bone Burnett on the soundtrack for the 2009 acclaimed film Crazy Heart, including notably co-writing and performing the film’s award-winning theme song, “The Weary Kind”.

The title track earned him an Academy Award, Golden Globe Award, and Critics’ Choice Award for “Best Song” in 2010, as well as a Grammy Award for “Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media” in 2011. The Americana Music Association also honored Bingham with the organization’s top award in 2010 as “Artist of the Year

Ryan Bingham Early Life

Bingham dropped out of school at 17 and was introduced to rodeo bull riding. He learned the emotional aspect of pain early in life, when shuttling between small towns and family members in the hardscrabble ranching communities of West Texas and Hobbs, New Mexico – and became well-acquainted with the physical facets of pain during his years on the Southwestern rodeo circuit.

That ache is palpable in the grooves of Mescalito, Ryan Bingham’s Lost Highway debut, but what’s even more plain is the steely strength needed to overcome it – a tenor that’s evident in both the singer-songwriter’s preternaturally wizened voice and his remarkably poignant songs, which resonate with roadhouse wisdom and rough-and-ready border-town piquancy.

In April 2019 Ryan partnered with Live Nation (events promoter) to launch his own music festival, The Western. The inaugural event took place over two days in the Luckenbach, Texas As of 2019, Ryan Bingham has released six studio albums and one live album, the last four of which were released under his own label, Axster Bingham Records.

 ‘Yellowstone’ Season Two

From playing a sheriff in Sons of Anarchy to writing critically acclaimed ‘gritty’ films like Sicario and Oscar-nominated Hell or High Water, Taylor Sheridan is about to launch the second season of his wildly popular cable TV show Yellowstone.

Sheridan, 49, grew up on ranches in Cranfills Gap in Bosque County and Fort Worth–a lifestyle that’s clearly evident in his work. Although filmed in Utah and Montana, Sheridan’s Texas roots are woven into the modern-day western drama about land, loyalty, and family.

Sheridan–the creator, writer, director and executive producer of the show–even featured one of his favorite bands from the Lone Star State on Yellowstone’s debut season: Whiskey Myers. “I love those guys,” Sheridan told KWTX. KWTX sat down with the band as they headlined the Heart O’ Texas Fair & Rodeo in the Fall.

“He’s a fan and kind of become a friend of ours, so he just asked us to do the job, and of course we’re going to jump at the opportunity so,” said percussionist Tony Kent. “There’s really cool artists like other bands on the show, too, like Uncle Lucius and Ryan Bingham.”

scar-winner Ryan Bingham plays the role of ‘Walker’ on the series, however, he’s not the only Texas musician getting some face-time. A mix of southern rock and Red Dirt county, not only was Whiskey Myers’ music heard on the show, the independent, East Texas band had multiple cameos.

“I think we were in like St. Louis and we all flew from there to Utah, and we were just there on set for a day and flew back home,” said Kent. “We were actually in the studio recording the new album when it aired for the first time so we didn’t even get to see it, our phones just started blowing up like ‘hey, just saw you on TV’ which was pretty cool.”

Bass player Jamey Gleaves said Sheridan told them the idea came up during the process of writing out a scene for the season one finale. “I guess he was playing ‘Stone’ for somebody and was like ‘I want something like this,’ and they were like ‘why don’t you just get them?’” Gleaves told KWTX. Gleaves said it took about 14 hours to film a two-minute segment of the show.

“The weird part is sometimes we had to play to a track, and so we were acting, and that’s weird, really weird,” said Gleaves. weird, but well-worth it, Gleaves and Kent agree. According to savingcountrymusic.com, Whiskey Myers’ presence on the show resulted in nearly two-million-viewers crashing the internet trying to learn more about the band, plus, their album skyrocketed to number one of the iTunes country chart.

The band’s popularity has skyrocketed. “Anytime we can get to play in Texas we’re excited ‘cuz we’re gone so much now,” said Kent. “We love coming back home.” Kent lived in Waco for a year while he attended Baylor University. “Standard Hat Works, they’re our friends here in Waco,” said Kent.

Gleaves said they like playing at The Backyard Bar Stage & Grill downtown. “It’s cool, it’s got cornhole,” he said. The band said they wanted to see more of Sheridan and would love to work with him again. “Come hang out with us and put us in more shows,” said Kent. Gleaves responded by saying “yes, please,” seconding the motion.

“He needs to hang out with us more,” he said. Sheridan told KWTX he was in the middle of directing a new film in New Mexico and couldn’t break away for an interview. However, his “uncle” Parnell McNamara (his second cousin, technically), the Sheriff of McLennan County, was happy to speak for his “nephew.” ‘m so proud of Taylor,” McNamara told KWTX. “It’s so cool he and his family are from Waco, and the impact Central Texas has had on him is obvious.”

McNamara and his brother Mike, both former deputy U.S. Marshals, inspired the Oscar-nominated role of Marcus Hamilton in Hell or High Water played by Jeff Bridges. Season two of Yellowstone premieres Wednesday at 9 p.m. Central Time on The Paramount Network.
