Ruth Buzzi Parents: Meet Angelo Peter Buzzi and Rena Pauline

Ruth Buzzi’s most well-known figure was the “spinster” Gladys Ormphby, who wore plain brown attire and had her hair tied in a prominent hairnet in the center of her forehead. She initially donned this look when she played Agnes Gooch in a school performance of Auntie Mame.

Buzzi frequently pounced violently on anyone who enraged her, using her purse as a weapon. Arte Johnson’s portrayal of Tyrone F. Horneigh as the “dirty old man” constantly made advances toward her.

When the episodes were animated in the middle of the 1970s as a part of the series Baggy Pants and the Nitwits, NBC referred to them together as The Nitwits. The animated program featured voices from Buzzi and Johnson.

Additionally, Buzzi performed the role of Gladys in a number of Dean Martin roasts held at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas.

In these roasts, she would vehemently challenge the honoree, wielding her purse as a weapon, and even strike Dean Martin if he said anything disparaging about her appearance or her potential love life.

Buzzi was raised in the Connecticut town of Stonington’s Wequetequock. At Wequetequock Cove, they resided in a rock home with a view of the water. Her father founded Buzzi Memorials, a company that Harold, her older brother, maintained until he retired in 2013.
